Check valves, also known as non-return valves, are essential components used to prevent backflow in piping systems. They operate automatically, allowing fluid to flow in only one direction.
When the fluid flows in the correct direction, the pressure pushes the disc or closure element open. If the flow reverses, the pressure from the opposite side forces the disc shut, blocking the reverse flow.
There are several types of check valves, including:
-
Swing check valves
-
Dual plate (or wafer) check valves
-
Piston or disc check valves
These valves are widely used in hydraulic, chemical, and petrochemical systems to ensure safety and prevent damage to pumps, compressors, or other sensitive components.
