The Construction of Valves

Choosing the right materials for industrial valve construction is essential for ensuring reliable performance, corrosion resistance, and long-term durability. Material selection depends on the type of fluid, operating environment, and conditions of pressure and temperature.

Commonly used materials include:

  • Carbon steel (ASTM A216 WCB): suitable for general-purpose applications with good mechanical strength.

  • Stainless steel (ASTM A351 CF8M): excellent corrosion resistance, ideal for aggressive fluids and marine environments.

  • Bronze and brass: used in civil installations, HVAC systems, and low-corrosive environments.

  • Cast iron: cost-effective and robust, suited for low-pressure systems.

  • Special alloys (Duplex, Inconel, Hastelloy): used in extreme conditions involving high corrosion or elevated temperatures.

Sealing elements such as gaskets, seats, and discs are also made from selected materials like PTFE, EPDM, Viton, or hard metals to ensure proper sealing and durability.
